Nairobi, November 2- Lecturers in public universities are expected to resume teaching today following an agreement between university staff unions and the government to end a month-long strike.
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) confirmed that its members would return to their teaching, research and other academic duties after signing a return-to-work agreement with the government on October 30.
The agreement provides KSh20 billion towards the implementation of the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), with the funds scheduled for release in three instalments over the next three financial years.
Under the deal, lecturers will receive an annual 3.5 per cent increase in basic salaries for four years, alongside an automatic annual salary increment of five per cent.
The agreement also provides for the payment of outstanding salary and allowance arrears, as well as improvements to commuter, leave and other allowances.
The strike began on October 2 following disagreements over the implementation of the collective bargaining agreements and funding for public universities.
The industrial action disrupted teaching and learning across the country, leaving thousands of students unable to continue with their academic programmes.
The union has called on students to resume their studies as universities prepare to restore normal academic activities.Kenyans
