Nairobi, Kenya, October 15- Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe is reportedly under investigation for rape by Swedish police, according to Swedish media. The 25-year-old footballer, who was recently in Stockholm, has vehemently denied the allegations, calling the reports “fake news.”

Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet initially reported that a rape had been reported to authorities but did not disclose any names. Later, Expressen claimed that Mbappe was the suspect in the investigation. The paper stated that police consider the footballer “reasonably suspected” of rape and sexual assault, a lower level of suspicion in Swedish law.

Mbappe’s representatives, when contacted, said they were unaware of any legal complaint filed against him. The French international had visited Stockholm with friends last Thursday, dining at a restaurant and visiting a nightclub before leaving the country on Friday.

According to Aftonbladet, the rape allegedly took place in central Stockholm, with a formal complaint made to the police the following day. The report mentioned that the victim had sought medical attention but did not specify the accused at the time.

Mbappe responded to the accusations via social media, linking the timing of the report to his upcoming hearing before a French league committee, where he is involved in a dispute with his former club Paris Saint-Germain over unpaid wages. Mbappe claims the club owes him 55 million euros ($60 million). “FAKE NEWS!!!!” he posted, suggesting that the timing of the accusation was no coincidence.

Swedish authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway but have not provided further details. Mbappe’s team has condemned the accusations, calling them “completely false and irresponsible” and promising legal action against those spreading the rumors. The football star’s representatives described the situation as part of a pattern of “moral harassment” and defamation aimed at tarnishing his image.

Mbappe recently joined Real Madrid after seven years with PSG. The French striker is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world and is renowned for his performances on the global stage, including a World Cup win with France in 2018.
