Nairobi, Kenya, December 2- Deputy President Kithure Kindiki faulted the political chaos that erupted in Limuru during a burial event.
Speaking on Sunday at a Gospel Outreach church in Kyuso, Kitui County, Kindiki urged leaders to foster peace and stay away from any violence.
This comes after a chaotic ordeal happened during a burial ceremony in Limuru where former DP Rigathi Gachagua was in attendance.
“We must protect this country from political violence. Politicians should not incite their supporters to cause violence at public gatherings,” said Kindiki.
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua alleged it was a plot to assassinate him. The incident saw goons disrupt the event, vandalising tents, chairs, and vehicles, including those of Gachagua and accompanying MPs.
Speaking during an interview, he linked the alleged plot to the withdrawal of his security details following his visit to Murang’a on Sunday, November 24. According to him, the move left him vulnerable, paving the way for the attack.
“The scheme to take away my life was hatched and carried out, and it started with the withdrawal of security officers around me. When we left Murang’a, the few officers who were with me were recalled and given transfers to various destinations.
I was left without any officers. All four administrative police officers who had been guarding this residence had been withdrawn two weeks ago when we left Embu. I now see it very clearly that the timing of the withdrawal of those officers was to expose me and create a stage for an attack on my person,” he claimed.
Gachagua further accused Limuru MP John Kiragu of orchestrating the chaos.
He claimed that a meeting was held at Tigoni Police Station a day before the funeral, where local security officials allegedly conspired to facilitate the disturbance.
He also criticised the response of four officers assigned to the bereaved family, who, despite being present, reportedly arrived in civilian attire and failed to intervene.
