Nairobi, Kenya, January 8- Sauti Sol’s indefinite hiatus has led to a sharp rise in their booking fees, according to vocalist Willis Chimano. With members focusing on solo careers, Chimano revealed that their performance charges are now significantly higher.
“Booking Sauti Sol now costs more. $100,000 (Sh13 million) would be ideal, but nothing much below that,” Chimano told Nairobi News.
The group, which announced its hiatus in May 2023 after 18 years of producing hits, occasionally reunites for special events like Sol Fest 2024, held on December 19 and 21 at Uhuru Gardens.
Chimano explained the premium rates are justified by high logistical costs and the value of their brand. “Promoters pay for the brand value. Sauti Sol has built its reputation,” he said. Their success was evident in Sol Fest 2023, which generated over Sh100 million, with ticket sales alone accounting for about Sh70 million, as shared by Bien.
Comparable Rates Across Africa
Sauti Sol’s rates mirror those of top African artists. Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz recently revealed earning $150,000 (Sh20 million) for Furaha Fest. Similarly, Bensoul and Zuchu have increased their fees, citing rising production costs and brand value.
