Nairobi, Kenya, January 13- City car dealer Joseph Kairo Wambui was on Monday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, facing charges of using fraudulent tricks to induce clients to send him money for car imports that were allegedly never delivered.

Kairo denied the charges, which involve transactions totaling over Sh5 million. According to the charge sheet, between July 10 and July 25, 2024, Kairo allegedly defrauded Jeff Munane of Sh2.1 million through his company, Kai & Kairo Limited. The funds were reportedly paid for the importation of a Honda Vezel hybrid from Japan, which Kairo failed to deliver.

Similarly, Kairo is accused of defrauding another client, Dona Okoth, of Sh2.98 million. The charge sheet alleges that Okoth transferred the money to Kai & Kairo Limited’s KCB bank account for the purchase of a Subaru Outback. However, the deal is said to have been a false pretense.

Kairo’s defense team, led by Advocate Danstan Omari, urged the court to grant lenient bond terms, emphasizing his client’s cooperation with the investigation.

Chief Magistrate Onyina is set to deliver the ruling on bail at 2 p.m.
