Nairobi, Kenya, November 15- Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has opened up about her past relationship with fellow actor Blessing Lung’aho, revealing the reasons behind her decision to ask him to leave her home.
In a conversation with Dr. Ofweneke on November 13, Jackie explained that from the beginning, she had no desire for marriage, a sentiment she made clear to Blessing. Reflecting on her past relationships, she compared her time with Blessing to her previous marriage to her first child’s father, a pilot, describing her first marriage as her “real” one. “My wake-up call was my second marriage,” Jackie shared. “I wouldn’t even call it a marriage because we never really went through with it. My first marriage was real.”
Jackie confessed that she wasn’t in the right mindset for marriage, feeling it didn’t align with her personal goals or desires. However, her perspective shifted after the birth of her daughter, Zendaya. Motherhood gave her clarity, and she began to evaluate her relationship with Blessing from the standpoint of her child’s well-being. “When I got Zendaya, I had a moment of clarity,” Jackie recalled. “I kept asking myself if this was the life I wanted for myself.”
Over time, Jackie recognized that her focus on the relationship had been at the expense of her child. She noticed fear in her daughter’s eyes, a wake-up call that prompted her to make difficult decisions. “I told God I wanted to work on myself to become a better mother,” Jackie said, emphasizing her commitment to providing Zendaya with a stable and loving environment.
Ultimately, Jackie asked Blessing to leave, understanding the challenges she would face as a single mother. While she tried to encourage Blessing to remain involved in Zendaya’s life, she was disappointed when he didn’t engage as she had hoped. “When I told the dad to go, he left. And in my head, I thought, this isn’t the first time I’ve raised a child without marriage,” Jackie explained. “I tried… But you cannot force a man to be involved.”
Initially, Jackie considered legal action to secure support for her daughter. However, she reconsidered, realizing that her anger was not worth pursuing a bitter battle. “I was very bitter. I wanted this person to suffer. But I realized… is it worth it?” she reflected.
Jackie credits her nanny for stepping in and providing the stability Zendaya needed when Jackie felt overwhelmed. “I couldn’t do it all alone. And I told myself I was done proving myself to people who don’t know me. The only people I need to prove myself to are my children,” she said.
Now, Jackie’s focus is on her children and personal growth. She has prioritized their well-being, explaining that her tears were not for the end of her relationship, but for her determination to become a better mother. “I was not crying because he left… I already knew this wasn’t working before I gave birth,” she shared. Jackie has remained celibate for three years, dedicating herself to her children’s needs and her personal growth.
