Nairobi, Kenya, January 16- A massive fire broke out at the University of Nairobi’s Taifa Hall late Wednesday night, causing extensive damage to the building and part of the adjacent Gandhi Wing. The blaze, which began around midnight on January 15, was so intense that flames and thick smoke were visible across the campus and from nearby highways.
Taifa Hall, a landmark conference and lecture facility located near the main administration block at the university’s entrance, suffered significant destruction in the fire. Videos circulating online captured the ferocity of the flames engulfing the hall, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Emergency responders arrived promptly to battle the inferno. Despite their efforts to extinguish the blaze, reports indicate that the fire reignited around 5 a.m., necessitating a second deployment by the fire department. According to Central Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Stephen Okal, the rekindled flames were eventually brought under control.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the events leading to the devastating incident.
