Nairobi, January 29- Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has touched many hearts by sharing a moving video of himself spending time with baby James, the young boy who witnessed his father’s tragic murder in Mathare.
In a video posted on Instagram, Sonko is seen having breakfast with James in his luxurious dining room. The table was filled with an array of food, including eggs, chicken sausages, tea, juice, and more. Sonko encouraged the boy to eat as much as he wanted, offering him extra tea and juice.
During their time together, Sonko playfully interacted with James, repeatedly prompting him to say, “Sema fish, sema fish, good boy.” Beyond breakfast, the video also showed them watching cartoons and Sonko personally tending to a wound on James’ ankle.
Assuring the boy of his care, Sonko told him, “This is your home now.” He revealed that he had taken James to the hospital for a medical check-up and arranged for therapy to help him cope with the trauma of witnessing his father’s brutal killing. However, he noted that James still vividly remembers the tragic event, especially when he looks at the scar on his ankle.
Sharing medical documents and details of James’ treatment, Sonko captioned the post: “The devil is a liar. The healing journey of baby James has started. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as we walk this journey together.”
James’ story began in Mathare, where his father, a construction worker, was attacked by thugs at dawn while the boy watched helplessly. Witnesses described the heartbreaking moment when James broke down in tears beside his father’s lifeless body, his food scattered on the ground. The incident sparked public outrage, with Kenyans calling for justice and support for the traumatized child.
On January 25, Sonko announced that he had officially taken James under his care. With the help of local leaders, he connected with the boy and assured him of a promising future. He pledged to enroll James in a school of his choice and provide everything he needed to succeed. Additionally, Sonko gifted him school supplies, toys, clothes, shoes, and a bicycle, ensuring both his comfort and emotional well-being.
