Nairobi, February 4- Dias Jumbo Wabwire, a Mombasa doctor has been released on a Ksh 500,000 bond on sexual assault charges on a 30 year old patient at Pandya Hospital in Mombasa.

Wabwire pleaded not guilty at the Mombasa High Court to the crime, while arraigned in court before magistrate Alex Ithuku on Monday.

Wabwire was charged with one count of raping a patient at 5am on 31st January 2025 while seeking dialysis services at the facility.

Women’s rights organisation FIDA has condemned the incident, saying that the woman had earlier been raped by the same suspect, calling for the arrest of more people whom they accused of obstructing the course of justice

“The DCI and ODPP must also investigate and charge the specific staff members who knew about the act and took no action. FIDA will actively monitor this case, protect the survivor and protect her to make sure she gets justice,” said Jane Onyango, a lawyer with FIDA.

The case will be mentioned on 17 February 2025.
