Nairobi, February 24- Pope Francis Pope Francis remains in critical condition as he battles pneumonia and a complex lung infection, with blood tests showing early signs of kidney failure. Despite his fragile health, the 88-year-old pontiff remains alert, responsive, and even attended Mass, the Vatican reported on Sunday.
Amid concerns about his condition, Francis expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received from around the world, saying:
“I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children. Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world!”
A later update confirmed that while he has not experienced further respiratory crises since Saturday night, he continues to receive high-flow oxygen support. Some tests revealed mild kidney failure, but doctors assured that it was under control.
Given his age, fragility, and pre-existing lung condition, doctors described his prognosis as uncertain. His deteriorating health has also reignited discussions about what might happen if he were to become incapacitated, including the possibility of resignation.
