Nairobi, October 23- Raila Odinga Junior has officially taken over as the new head of the Odinga family following a traditional installation ceremony held on Thursday at their ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County.
The event, steeped in Luo cultural rituals, song, and dance, took place just days after the burial of his father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
According to Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga, the ceremony symbolized the transfer of family leadership to the late ODM leader’s son. “It’s a cultural rite meant to bless and formally hand over the family’s leadership,” Dr. Oburu explained.
During the ceremony, Raila Jr was symbolically shaved by one of his grandmothers and presented with traditional regalia, including a Luo shield and animal skin cloak, signifying authority.
As per Luo customs, the eldest surviving son assumes the role of family head following the father’s passing. Raila Jr now carries that mantle after the loss of his elder brother, Fidel Castro Odinga, in 2015.
