Nairobi, October 14- The National Steering Committee has announced a three-day memorial programme to honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga ahead of the first anniversary of his death.

The commemorations will run from October 13 to 15, 2026, with the main ceremony scheduled for October 15 in Bondo, Siaya County.

The event is expected to bring together family members, political leaders, supporters and members of the public to celebrate Odinga’s life, political journey and contribution to Kenya’s democracy.

Odinga, a veteran opposition leader and former Prime Minister, died on October 15, 2025, aged 80, while receiving medical treatment in India.

Throughout his political career, he played a significant role in Kenya’s multiparty struggle, constitutional reforms and the push for democratic governance. He also served as Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013 under the coalition government formed after the disputed 2007 General Election.

The three-day programme will provide an opportunity for Kenyans to reflect on his legacy and remember his influence on the country’s political landscape.

Further details on the activities planned for the memorial period are expected to be communicated by the organising committee.
