Nairobi, Kenya, November 5- A postmortem examination has revealed critical details surrounding the death of 47-year-old Kenyan woman Lucy Wambui, who passed away after complications from a “360-degree liposuction” and Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) on October 16, 2024, at Omnicare Medical.
Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor reported that Wambui’s condition worsened rapidly after the surgery, with symptoms including chest pain, difficulty breathing, and abdominal pain. Initially diagnosed with pneumonia, she was discharged but later admitted to Nairobi Hospital, where emergency surgery revealed multiple intestinal perforations and severe infection. Despite treatment, she died of sepsis on October 26.
Her husband, businessman Francis Ng’ang’a, described her suffering, saying, “I asked them why my wife was excreting and smelling, and they told me it was part of the healing process.” He expressed feeling betrayed as the clinic, Body by Design, abruptly closed after discharging her. “They told her to go home, and they closed the clinic,” Ng’ang’a added.
Dr. Oduor’s report highlighted extensive complications, including fat necrosis and septic wounds. Authorities have since shut down Body by Design and launched an investigation into potential negligence, as Wambui’s tragic death raises concerns about Kenya’s largely unregulated cosmetic surgery industry.
Wambui will be laid to rest on November 5 in Limuru. Her death has drawn public attention, with personalities like Betty Kyalo and Amira demanding justice. The family now hopes for accountability and greater awareness of cosmetic surgery risks.
