Nairobi, February 3- Beyoncé has finally won the highly sought-after “Album of the Year” award at the 67th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, marking a major milestone in her career. Her eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter, which honors the Black origins of country music, earned her the prestigious accolade after years of being overlooked in the category.

Upon hearing her name announced, Beyoncé shared a heartfelt moment with her daughter, Blue Ivy, and husband, Jay-Z, before heading to the stage. “I just feel very full and very honored,” she said in her acceptance speech. “It’s been many, many years.”

She dedicated the award to Linda Martell, a trailblazer for Black musicians in country music and the first Black woman to perform solo at the Grand Ole Opry. Beyoncé expressed hope for continued progress, saying, “I hope we just keep pushing forward [and] opening doors. God bless y’all. Thank you so much.”

This win comes 25 years after her first Grammy nomination with Destiny’s Child. Now holding the record for the most Grammy wins in history with 35 awards, this is her first-ever Album of the Year victory.

Beyoncé’s groundbreaking album, Cowboy Carter, which blends country and Americana, secured her long-awaited win. The album is part of a trilogy exploring American musical traditions while shedding light on the overlooked contributions of Black artists.

Notably, she becomes the first Black woman to win Album of the Year since Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1999.

Earlier in the evening, Cowboy Carter also won Best Country Album, an outcome that visibly surprised Beyoncé. The award was presented by Taylor Swift, who had previously won over Beyoncé for Album of the Year in 2010. “Wow, I really was not expecting this,” Beyoncé said, expressing appreciation for the country artists who supported her.
