Nairobi, March 13- Kenyans on X had a lively debate after President William Ruto announced his intention to purchase a chapati-making machine to enhance mass production of chapatis for high school students.

During his second day touring development projects in Nairobi, Ruto visited St. Teresa Girls Secondary School in Mathare, where he made the pledge to an excited crowd of students. The promise came in response to a request from Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who had earlier asked Ruto to help acquire a machine capable of producing a million chapatis daily.

The request was tied to the county’s Dishi Na County school feeding program, which currently benefits over 300,000 children. When Sakaja asked the students what they would like added to their menu, their overwhelming response was chapati.

Seemingly convinced, Ruto responded, “I have agreed to buy a chapati-making machine. Governor, your work is now finding where to buy it,” prompting cheers from the students.

However, many Kenyans were unimpressed, dismissing the promise as an impractical initiative that does little to address more pressing issues affecting Nairobi residents and the country as a whole. Critics took to social media to call out the President for what they saw as misplaced priorities, accusing him of focusing on superficial projects while overlooking critical national concerns.
