Nairobi, March 18- A team from Kenya’s embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, has urgently traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam, in a bid to prevent the execution of Margaret Nduta.

Nduta, convicted of drug trafficking by a Vietnamese court, was sentenced to death and scheduled for execution on Monday evening.

According to Citizen TV, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei confirmed on March 17 that Kenya’s ambassadors in Thailand had been dispatched to Vietnam to appeal for clemency for the 37-year-old.

Sing’Oei stated that the delegation would also seek to postpone the execution, allowing more time for diplomatic discussions between Kenya and Vietnam.

This move follows a phone call between Sing’Oei and Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Nguyen Minh Hang, in which the Vietnamese official acknowledged the complexity of the case but assured that Kenya’s appeal was being reviewed.
