Nairobi, July 22- Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, Dennis Itumbi, has disclosed that President William Ruto was among the leaders who helped support the funeral expenses of comedian Zakaria Kariuki, popularly known as KK Mwenyewe.

Through a post on his official X account, Itumbi announced that President Ruto donated Ksh 1 million towards the arrangements, while Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika contributed Ksh 200,000.

KK Mwenyewe, who gained fame for his humorous skits impersonating former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, passed away while undergoing treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.

On Monday, July 21, 2025, content creators, fans, and other players in the creative industry held a memorial and fundraiser at Blue Springs Hotel along Thika Road in honour of KK Mwenyewe.

Dennis Itumbi was also present at the event, delivering contributions from President Ruto and other politicians.

“The President, Dr. William Ruto,” Itumbi said, “has said even if you chant ‘must go’, he has given Ksh 1 million.”

He added, “Nakuru Governor Madam Susan Kihika called me while I was at this event and sent Ksh 200,000. The entire team—Radial, MCA, all of them—added Ksh 100,000. I will also personally contribute Ksh 100,000. The area MP where our brother will be laid to rest also gave Ksh 100,000.”

Itumbi further mentioned that Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah donated Ksh 100,000 as well.

The family announced that KK Mwenyewe will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his home in Lari, Githirioni Village, Kiambu County.
