Nairobi, October 5- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions, signalling growing support for the senator as opposition leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua welcomed the launch of The Equitable Party, which has adopted Sifuna as its interim leader and presidential candidate, describing the development as an important step in his political journey.

In a message shared on social media, Gachagua congratulated Sifuna and urged him to move quickly to establish the party’s structures and identify candidates ahead of the elections.

He also called on Sifuna’s supporters to rally behind the new political vehicle and field strong candidates in areas where the party has a significant presence.

Gachagua said the new party should focus on winning parliamentary seats as part of efforts to give the opposition a majority in both Houses of Parliament.

He further criticised politicians allied to President William Ruto, accusing them of abandoning the interests of voters and urging the new party to work towards removing them from Parliament.

The former deputy president said the emerging political alliance would be key to forming the next administration, while declaring that the opposition should work towards ending Ruto’s tenure after one term.

Sifuna was unveiled as The Equitable Party’s presidential candidate on Sunday after the political outfit was selected as the vehicle for his 2027 bid.

The development adds to growing efforts by opposition leaders to consolidate their forces ahead of the 2027 elections, with Sifuna increasingly being positioned as one of the potential challengers to Ruto.
