Nairobi, October 9 – Bahati, often dubbed Kenya’s “king of clout,” is back in the spotlight after sparking a new wave of controversy online. In a recent Instagram post, the singer announced that he would delete his latest song, “Seti,” from YouTube if the promotional post hits 5,000 comments.
The song marking his return to secular music has been trending at number one in Kenya, amassing over a million views within 24 hours of its release. However, it has also faced backlash for its explicit content, with many fans and critics expressing disappointment across social media.
Even Bahati’s wife, Diana Marua, voiced her disapproval, saying the video disrespects family values. However to many fans the statement from his wife seems to made in pretence.
This comes after a string of controversies surrounding the artist, including criticism for sharing screenshots of his past conversation with the late Gengetone artist Shalkido. Fans accused Bahati of ignoring Shalkido’s plea for a collaboration when he was alive, only to post the chat after his death.
Bahati defended himself, saying his management had already contacted Shalkido and that they were scheduled to record together the following week.
Online users remain divided, with many questioning whether Bahati’s latest move is genuine or just another publicity stunt.
